Company Description
European Space Imaging (EUSI) is a leader in the earth observation sector in Europe, with over 20 years of experience delivering the highest quality Very High Resolution (VHR) satellite imagery. Based in Germany, EUSI was the first to introduce 30 cm resolution satellite imagery to the European market, solidifying its reputation as a trusted provider. Leveraging a dedicated ground station at the German Aerospace Center, EUSI ensures efficient collection and Near Real-Time (NRT) delivery of advanced satellite imagery. The company is at the forefront of remote sensing technology, helping propel Europe into a new era of optical satellite capabilities.
Role Description
We are seeking a skilled Cloud and Backend Engineer (m/f/d) for a full-time position in Munich, with the flexibility to work from home on a hybrid schedule. We are looking for a highly self-motivated individual to join our 7-person development team as a key member of a new and exciting satellite imagery ordering platform. As a small team, this role spans cloud infrastructure (primary focus) and hands-on backend development: you'll own our AWS platform and contribute to our TypeScript backend services as needed. Your day-to-day tasks will include developing, deploying, and optimizing software services, ensuring seamless integration between systems, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust and high-quality solutions. You will play a critical role in advancing our technological capabilities in satellite imagery and related applications.
Hard Requirements
- Due to regulatory and export control obligations associated with our operations (including compliance with U.S. remote sensing regulations), this role requires eligibility to work with controlled geospatial data. This typically applies to candidates holding nationality within the EU, NATO member states, or aligned partner countries (e.g. Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland). EUSI is an equal opportunity employer. This requirement is solely driven by legal and regulatory frameworks and does not reflect any preference beyond compliance obligations.
- Working proficiency in English.
- Willingness to commit to a hybrid 2 days per week in-office setup.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 4 years of professional AWS experience (AWS Lambda, ECS, S3, State Machines, VPC).
- Strong skills in Infrastructure as Code with Terraform.
- 3 years of TypeScript programming with RESTful APIs.
- Experience in designing, deploying and operating solutions on Kubernetes.
- Experience with Bash scripting.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and multi-cloud setups.
Nice to Have
- Proficiency with Python programming.
- Experience with Cloud cost management/FinOps.
- Experience with OTC (Open Telekom Cloud).
- Relevant certifications in AWS, Terraform and/or Kubernetes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and manage secure, scalable cloud infrastructure on AWS, primarily through serverless and containerized architectures.
- Optimize performance, ensure security, and manage sensitive information.
- Optimize automated workflows and data transfers of large satellite imagery datasets.
- Consolidate our technical portfolio into the AWS Cloud.
- Develop RESTful APIs, following best practices and code quality standards.
